Harbinger Renegades
Peter Stanchek is the only recorded case of someone with the power to activate other psiots. He was born with telepathy and, unable to control it, he ended up in a mental institution when he was young. There he met Joseph “Joe” Irons and they became best friends. They used to rob pharmacies for money and medicine. After his 18th birthday, Peter tried to approach his childhood “friend” Kristina Hathaway, but she turned him down. Peter used his mind control to make her love him for one night. Corralled by Project Rising Spirit, Peter unleashed his powers on them, following the advice from Toyo Harada, who later recruited him for the Harbinger Foundation.
Forced to activate Faith, Peter cut the process short when it started to go wrong. Aided by Livewire, he left the building shortly after. When he found Joe dead, and upon confirmation that Harada was responsible, he went to confront him. Faith, whose powers had finally activated, saved him when he was thrown out of a window. They soon got in touch with Kris and she joined their fight against Harada.
Possessing a list of potential psiots, they went looking for people who would join their cause. The first one was Charlene Dupre, stage name and codename Flamingo, a small-town heartthrob turned stripper in an abusive relationship. And the last to join the team was John “Torque” Torkelson, a sickly young man with the power to project his ideas into the real world.
Harbinger Wars
The mission of the Harbinger Renegades was to help young psiots under the control of the Harbinger Foundation. They were caught in the Harbinger Wars started with the escape of P.R.S. psiots Generation Zero. These were young children kidnapped and forced to become soldiers. Bloodshot, who had broken free of his programming, released them and granted them freedom. Generation Zero, Bloodshot and the Renegades all ended briefly under Harada’s control. When the Renegades broke free, they took the fight to Harada. With the help of the teenage hacktivist known as @X, they infiltrated the Harbinger Foundation, broke out Generation Zero and exposed Harada’s secrets to the world. The victory left Peter grievously injured, and cost Flamingo her life when she saved Faith.
Aftermath
The team disbanded for a time, until the Consortium, an underground group of psiots attempting to replicate Harada’s methods of activation, brought them back together. Kris confronted the leader, Alexander Solomon, who revealed that the Harbinger Wars were his design. She encouraged Peter to begin activating as many psiots as possible to spare them from the Consortium. This caused clashes between the Renegades and OMEN (ex P.R.S.). One of these clashes prompted Livewire to shut down the power grid of North America.
Flamingo Lives
Charlene was brought back to life with a spell by Master Darque, under the request of Doctor Silk, who has plans for her. It’s not her original body, but she has all the same powers, and her memories might progressively come back.
OTHER DETAILS: Psiots are superhumans who exhibit an array of psychic abilities. The majority of Earth’s population are norms, people with no powers. Then, there is a rarer type of person that’s a latent, someone who’s powers have yet to be activated. This process is agonizing and 1 out of 4 doesn’t survive. The most rare type is someone with active powers. In the records of the Harbinger Foundation there are only three cases of people born active: Toyo Harada, leader of the foundation; Darpan, a boy from India that can make you relieve your worst memories; and Peter Stanchek.
